Author Spotlight: A.L. Martin

The Author Spotlight series featured on this blog showcases writers and their work. Writing can be a fulfilling but lonely journey - so why not have some fun and make a few friends along the way? Let’s get to know A.L. Martin (@Amberm2012):

What inspired you to start writing?

I have always love to write. It was a childhood dream that got pushed aside for a while. Then, I met one of my best friends who reintroduced me to my love of writing. In fact, she edits my books for me.

What are common traps/mistakes for aspiring writers?

Aspiring writers want their first drafts to be so perfect looking, thinking it will be less work for them in the end. I fell victim to this and it created more work than necessary. Keep it simple and never use the Tab key. That is the best advice authors can give to new writers.

What is something you loved but had to edit out of this book that was like sawing off a limb (isn’t writing fun)?

To be honest, I got lucky with this book. I was able to keep most of what I loved about it. A lot of what I cut out wasn't important to progress the Dancing With A Stranger story, so it wasn't that hard to cut it out.

Tell us a little bit about your story and what inspired you to write "Dancing With A Stranger ".

Dancing With A Stranger is about Londyn Carter who falls for Hunter Brooks who she knows nothing about. Some of her friends don't agree with her seeing him because he doesn't come from the same "social status". She notices strange things are beginning to happen but keeps them to herself. Hunter makes her feel alive, more rebellious. One day Hunter up and disappears, leaving her heartbroken. Her heartbreak is over quickly when Wyatt Butler introduces himself to her and her friends in the cafeteria. Now, even stranger things have started to happen and this time she just can't let them go.

If you had to describe the main character in three words, what would those three words be?

Londyn Carter is strong-willed, rebellious, and determined.

How can we purchase your book?
