Author Spotlight: Chad Descoteaux

The Author Spotlight series featured on this blog showcases writers and their work. Writing can be a fulfilling but lonely journey - so why not have some fun and make a few friends along the way? Let’s get to know Chad Descoteaux (@turtlerocketbks):

What inspired you to start writing?

Just desiring to tell stories and/or make my friends laugh when I was younger. I used to write one-page monster stories to entertain this kid in study hall.

What are common traps/mistakes for aspiring writers?

Not doing their homework, understanding the business and falling for vanity press-like scams. I normally write sci-fi, but my one horror story involves... Publish America!!!

What is something you loved but had to edit out of this book that was like sawing off a limb (isn’t writing fun)?

I wrote this superhero novel trilogy where I pretty much satirized every superhero character I've ever loved. I wanted to add a Deadpool-like character called Crapshoot who would break the fourth wall and talk to the reader and even make fun of me as the author. It didn't work with the tone of the rest of the story and I cut it out.

Tell us a little bit about your story and what inspired you to write "Working-Class Superheroes".

Working-Class Superheroes and its sequels were inspired by a lifetime of loving superhero stories and wanting to say something about them. It's an original story that pokes fun at certain tropes.

If you had to describe the main character in three words, what would those three words be?

Zeke Sullivan aka Wombat is loyal, impulsive, and just.

How can we purchase your book?

Working-Class Superheroes and its sequels can be purchased at in both Kindle and paperback editions. Only the first book is available on Audible as an audiobook, but the audio sequels are in the works.
